Details:
Ultramarine is one of the oldest and most vibrant blue pigments. Its bright blue color has a subtle reddish tint. It is non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and belongs to the category of inorganic pigments. It is used for whitening, eliminating the yellow tint in white paints or other white pigments. It is insoluble in water, alkali-resistant, and high-temperature resistant, and extremely stable against sunlight and weathering in the atmosphere, but it is not acid-resistant and decomposes and changes color when exposed to acid.
Ultramarine is a blue pigment whose main components are aluminum silicate and sodium salts, as well as some other sulfides or sulfates. Its natural form is lapis lazuli. Originally, it was made by grinding, washing, and extracting from lapis lazuli rock, a process that was extremely complex, making its value ten times that of the raw gemstone or even equivalent to gold. Now, synthetic ultramarine is available, which is cheaper, purer, and because of its more consistent particle size, results in a brighter color and more uniform reflection.
